Advance Foundation Course: The 2-Year Classroom (Online) Program

KSG, with its decade of experience in General Studies and a highly specialized team of experts mentored by DR. A.R. Khan, has formulated a special course called ‘’KSG ADVANCE FOUNDATION COURSE (AFC)”.

The KSG AFC is a two-year program which aims at building a strong foundation for UPSC CSE. The basic objective of this course is to give students an early starter advantage in the preparation of UPSC CSE.

The two-year course is designed to give ample time to all the topics, stages and aspects of UPSC CSE, whereby every aspirant can develop the skill sets, knowledge and holistic development of personality to achieve the qualities of a future IAS officer.

The program is carefully planned, keeping in mind the demand of the competitive examinations. In this initiative, we work on the overall development of the aspirants in a nuanced, methodical, targeted and meticulous way.

We at KSG work tirelessly in a mission-mode approach to guide our students through a Module based learning approach.

1. Newspaper Reading Module: Current affairs is one of the most essential aspects of the UPSC CSE. It becomes challenging for aspirants to keep up with daily updates wrt current affairs. Going through multiple newspapers every day, understanding the concepts and memorising it becomes challenging. Therefore, we at KSG guide all our students to read newspapers effectively to separate the wheat from the chaff.

2. Basic Concepts Module: Here, we focus on holistic coverage of NCERT and Other state board books like TN State board to build a robust foundation. Basic concepts and terminologies associated with all the subjects are also covered here, which are relevant to the examinations.

3. Dominant issues Module: Major current affairs, issues of relevance and Current events pertaining & relevant to UPSC CSE are taken up by the faculties in classrooms, and also, the Issues of the Month (IOM) Magazine act as a quality enrichment and value-added resource.

4. Map reading Module: Local, national and global awareness drastically improves via locational, spatial and map-based learning. This module enables a student to create data visualization and improve the relevance of the content taught already. Furthermore, maps have been a source for multiple questions in the preliminary and mains levels of UPSC CSE.

5. CSAT Module: CSAT is a crucial component of the preliminary examination, and therefore skilling, training and regular testing of aptitude, logical reasoning, and English become cardinal to success at the preliminary level of UPSC CSE. Additionally, the Compulsory paper of General English asked in the UPSC CSE Mains exam will also be covered.

6. Writing Skill Module: Marks obtained in the Mains Examination determine a candidate’s rank in the Civil Service examination, special emphasis is given to developing answer writing skills. Answer writing is a skill which needs to be nurtured and developed under the guidance of experts. We at KSG mould, train and hone our students to inculcate the habit of answer writing since the very inception of the classes via a myriad of initiatives. e.g. Convergence Writing practice (CWP), Newspaper Analysis Test (NAT), Pre Assessment Test (PAT).

7. Book Reading Module: Academic knowledge, articulation in answer writing and holistic personality development requires students to develop the habit of eclectic reading. Our faculties at KSG will nurture this habit of reading books ranging from Finance to Administration and up to Autobiographies and Contemporary books.

8. Personality Development Module: This will include Interaction with Bureaucrats, both former and serving, successful aspirants while conducting activities like debates, Assignments, and Research workshops in the classroom.

How are online classes different from classroom classes?

• Online Classes offer flexibility to students who are working, remotely located or are more comfortable with E-learning.

• The faculty, material and notes are exactly the same for both the Online and Offline classes.

• Students who enrol in online classes have the added advantage of accessing and watching the classes multiple times as the videos remain on the portal for extended periods of time.

• The online classes are designed to be interactive and accommodative. Students are free to post their questions on the class group and receive answers from the faculty during the class itself.

• The aim is to eliminate the difference between physical and online classroom learning.

• The students are also given a chance to interact with their classmates in the class discussion group enabling enriching discussions.

• The support of faculty and mentors is consistent. Every student is assigned a personal mentor who is responsible for addressing any academic or non-academic issues.

• Students gain from the expertise of not just the faculty but the mentors as well.
